Roro Jonggrang

Roro Jonggrang is a legendary figure in Indonesian folklore, associated with the creation of the Prambanan Temple in Central Java. The story tells of her love for Prince Bandung Bondowoso, who desires to marry her. To avoid this, Roro Jonggrang tricks him into building a thousand temples overnight by encouraging villagers to lend their help. When dawn approaches, she thwarts his plan by producing a cockerel's crow, signaling morning, which halts the work. Enraged, Bandung Bondowoso transforms her into the stone statue of Durga, a goddess, which now stands within the temple complex.
