Rohatsu

Rohatsu is a Japanese Buddhist tradition observed during the week leading up to December 8th, marking the Buddhas enlightenment. Practitioners, especially in Zen Buddhism, dedicate this time to intensive meditation (zazen), often engaging in 24-hour sittings. The purpose is to deepen their understanding of Buddhist teachings, cultivate mindfulness, and honor the moment Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Rohatsu emphasizes discipline, reflection, and spiritual growth, serving as a powerful reminder of the path to awakening through dedicated practice.
