Rods and Cones

Rods and cones are specialized cells in the retina of your eye that detect light and enable vision. Rods are highly sensitive to light, allowing you to see in dim environments and perceive movement, but they do not detect color. Cones, on the other hand, function best in bright light and are responsible for sharp, detailed vision and color perception. There are three types of cones, each sensitive to different wavelengths of light (red, green, blue), which combine to produce the full spectrum of colors you see. Together, rods and cones work to provide a full range of vision across varying lighting conditions.
