Rodent-borne viruses
Rodent-borne viruses are infectious agents transmitted to humans through contact with rodents or their droppings, urine, or bites. These viruses can cause illnesses ranging from mild flu-like symptoms to severe diseases such as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which affects the lungs, or arenaviruses leading to hemorrhagic fevers. Transmission often occurs when people inhale contaminated dust, come into direct contact with rodent waste, or are bitten. Preventive measures include proper sanitation, sealing food, controlling rodent populations, and avoiding contact with wild rodents. Awareness and hygiene are key to reducing the risk of infection from these viruses.
