Rockwood Classification

The Rockwood Classification is a system used by doctors to categorize shoulder acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries based on the severity of ligament damage and displacement. It ranges from Type I (minor sprain with no significant displacement) to Type VI (severe instability and displacement, often with displacement below the coracoid process). This classification helps guide treatment decisions by indicating how much the joint is damaged, from minor sprains to complete dislocation. Accurate classification ensures appropriate management, whether conservative or surgical, to restore shoulder function and stability.
