Robin Hood Gardens
Robin Hood Gardens was a housing estate in London designed by architects Alison and Peter Smithson, completed in the early 1970s. It featured a distinctive layout with long, communal walkways and shared outdoor spaces intended to encourage social interaction among residents. Known for its Brutalist architecture style, the development aimed to promote community living but faced criticism over its practicality and maintenance challenges. Despite its innovative design, Robin Hood Gardens was ultimately demolished in 2017, sparking debates about architectural preservation versus urban renewal. It remains a notable example of mid-20th-century social housing and architectural experimentation.
