Robert Wadlow

Robert Wadlow, known as the "Alton Giant," was the tallest person in recorded history. He was born on February 22, 1918, in Alton, Illinois, and reached a height of 8 feet 11 inches (2.72 meters) by the time of his death in 1940. Wadlow's extraordinary height was due to an overactive pituitary gland, which led to an excess of growth hormone.
