
Robert R. Livingston
Robert R. Livingston was a prominent American diplomat and lawyer in the late 1700s and early 1800s. He played a key role in negotiating the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, which doubled the size of the United States. Livingston also helped draft the Declaration of Independence and served as a diplomat to France. He was among the first U.S. ministers to France and later became the first U.S. Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Known as the "Noble Savage" for his diplomatic skills, Livingston was instrumental in shaping early American foreign policy and expanding the nation’s territory.
