Robert Hooke (inventor)

Robert Hooke (1635–1703) was an influential English scientist and inventor, best known for his work in microscopy and physics. He pioneered the use of the microscope to examine tiny structures, coining the term "cell" after observing cork’s microscopic compartments. Hooke also contributed to designing scientific instruments, such as the air pump, and made significant discoveries in elasticity, formulating Hooke’s Law, which explains how materials deform under stress. His work laid foundational principles for both biology and physics, establishing him as a pivotal figure in the Scientific Revolution.
