Robert Barany
Robert Bárány was a Hungarian-Austrian doctor and researcher who made significant contributions to understanding how the inner ear helps us maintain balance and orientation. He studied the vestibular system, which detects head movement and position, and identified how its dysfunction can cause dizziness and vertigo. For his work, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1914. His research deepened our knowledge of sensory systems involved in equilibrium, improving diagnosis and treatment of related disorders.
