RNA structure

RNA (ribonucleic acid) is a type of molecule that carries genetic information within cells. It is made up of a sequence of building blocks called nucleotides, each consisting of a sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base. Unlike DNA, RNA is usually single-stranded and can fold into specific shapes because of complementary base pairing, forming loops and stems. These structures allow RNA to perform diverse functions, such as carrying messages from DNA to produce proteins or helping regulate cellular activities. The structure of RNA is crucial for its ability to interact with other molecules and carry out its roles effectively.
