River Oxus
The Oxus River, also known as the Amu Darya, is a major river in Central Asia that flows through countries like Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It originates in the mountains of Tajikistan and travels approximately 1,200 miles (2,170 kilometers) before joining the Aral Sea. The river plays a crucial role in irrigation, supporting agriculture in the arid regions, but its waters have been heavily diverted for farming and development. Historically, the Oxus has been significant for trade and known as a natural boundary in the region.
