Ritsuryō system
The Ritsuryō system was Japan's ancient legal and administrative framework established during the 7th and 8th centuries. Inspired by Chinese models, it structured government with a centralized bureaucracy, codified laws, and a hierarchy of officials. The system included a detailed legal code (Ritsuryō) that defined the roles of various government positions, land distribution, and taxation. It aimed to strengthen imperial authority, standardize governance, and promote order across the country. Although its direct influence waned over time, the Ritsuryō system laid the groundwork for Japan's classical governance and influenced subsequent legal and administrative practices.
