RIT (Resistojet)
Resistojet (RIT) is a type of electric propulsion system used in spacecraft. It generates thrust by heating a propellant, usually a gas, with electrical energy, causing it to expand and accelerate out of a nozzle to produce movement. The system combines resistive heating (like a coil heating up) with traditional thruster mechanisms, allowing precise control of the spacecraft’s trajectory. RIT is efficient for station-keeping and orbit adjustments, especially in deep space missions, because it offers high specific impulse (fuel efficiency) and uses relatively simple, reliable technology.
