RIG (Rabies Immune Globulin)

Rabies Immune Globulin (RIG) is a treatment given after a potential rabies exposure, such as a bite from a possibly infected animal. It contains antibodies that help the body fight the rabies virus immediately, providing passive immunity. RIG is usually administered around the wound site to target the virus directly and is used in combination with the rabies vaccine, which stimulates the body's own immune response. This combination helps prevent the development of rabies, a deadly neurological disease, after exposure. RIG is most effective when given promptly and as part of a comprehensive post-exposure prophylaxis plan.
