Rifle Brigade

The Rifle Brigade was a British Army infantry unit established in 1859, known for its expertise with rifles rather than traditional muskets. Unlike regular line infantry, rifle regiments used more accurate, breech-loading rifles, making them effective in skirmishing and reconnaissance. The brigade played significant roles in various conflicts, including the Crimean War and later world wars. It was recognized for its disciplined marksmanship, agility, and ability to operate independently on the battlefield. In 1966, it merged into the Royal Green Jackets, continuing its legacy within the British Army's infantry tradition.
