Richard Reid (shoe bomber)
Richard Reid, known as the "shoe bomber," is a British terrorist who attempted to detonate explosives hidden in his shoes on an airplane in 2001. He had concealed plastic explosives in his footwear, planning to blow up the plane mid-flight. His attempt was unsuccessful because passengers and crew subdued him, and the plane was diverted to an emergency landing. Reid was arrested, tried, and sentenced to life in prison. His case highlighted the importance of security checks at airports, leading to measures like removing shoes during security scans to prevent similar threats.
