Richard II (King of England)

Richard II was King of England from 1377 to 1399, ascending the throne at a young age after his grandfather, Edward III, died. His reign was marked by struggles for power, including conflicts with nobles and challenges from the populace, notably the Peasants' Revolt in 1381. Richard was known for his ambitions and attempts to centralize authority, but his unpopular decisions led to discontent. Eventually, he was overthrown by Henry Bolingbroke, later King Henry IV, resulting in Richard's imprisonment and death. His complex legacy explores themes of kingship, power, and the role of monarchy in medieval society.
