Richard Chase, often referred to as the "Vampire of Sacramento," was a serial killer active in California during the late 1970s. He became notorious for his gruesome murders, which involved drinking the blood of his victims and engaging in acts of necrophilia. Chase claimed to be compelled by various delusions, believing that he needed to consume blood to survive. His crimes instigated widespread fear and highlighted issues of mental illness and criminal behavior. In 1979, he was apprehended, tried, and ultimately sentenced to death, later dying by suicide in prison in 1980.
