Richard Allen (founder)

Richard Allen was a pioneering African American religious leader and the founder of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in 1816. He dedicated his life to establishing a church that welcomed Black worshippers at a time when racial segregation and discrimination were widespread. Allen's efforts helped create a strong, independent religious community that promoted spiritual growth, education, and civil rights for African Americans. His leadership laid the foundation for a denomination that continues to serve as a vital institution for spiritual and social advocacy within the Black community across the United States.
