RICE Protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
The RICE protocol is a first-aid method for treating minor injuries, particularly sprains and strains. It stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Rest the injured area to prevent further damage. Ice helps reduce swelling and numbs pain—apply it for 15-20 minutes at a time. Compression involves wrapping the injured area with an elastic bandage to minimize swelling. Elevation keeps the injury raised above heart level, further helping to reduce swelling. Together, these steps can promote healing and alleviate discomfort in the initial stages of an injury.
