RhD blood group
The RhD blood group refers to whether a person’s blood has a specific protein called the RhD antigen on the surface of their red blood cells. If you have this protein, you are considered RhD positive; if not, you are RhD negative. This is important because during blood transfusions, an incompatible RhD status can cause the immune system to attack the transfused blood, leading to serious reactions. RhD status also affects pregnancy, as an RhD-negative mother can develop antibodies against an RhD-positive fetus, potentially causing health issues for the baby.
