RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative)

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cooperative effort among several U.S. states to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. It works by establishing a cap on total emissions and auctioning permits that allow plants to emit a certain amount of CO₂. Power companies must buy these permits, encouraging them to reduce emissions through cleaner energy sources or efficiency measures. Revenue generated typically funds clean energy projects and energy efficiency programs. RGGI aims to lower greenhouse gases, promote sustainable energy, and improve public health, all while maintaining a reliable power grid.
