Revolutionary Government of the Sandinista People

The Revolutionary Government of the Sandinista People was a government established in Nicaragua after the Sandinistas, a political and military organization, overthrew the dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza in 1979. It aimed to implement socialist reforms, redistribute land and resources, improve education and health care, and reduce inequality. Led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), the government faced opposition from different groups and external pressures, notably from the United States. It lasted until 1990, when democratic elections led to a change in leadership, transitioning back to civilian rule while maintaining some of its social programs.
