Revolution of 1979 (Iran)
The 1979 Iranian Revolution was a popular movement that overthrew the monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was seen as overly Western-aligned and oppressive. Fueled by economic struggles, political repression, and demands for greater Islamic governance, widespread protests and civil unrest grew across Iran. The revolution culminated in the Shah’s exile and the establishment of an Islamic republic led by Ayatollah Khomeini. This shift dramatically transformed Iran’s political structure, replacing monarchy with theocratic rule, and significantly impacted regional and global politics, especially in terms of Iran’s stance against Western influence.
