Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a condition that affects the developing blood vessels in the eyes of premature babies. Because their eyes are not fully developed at birth, abnormal blood vessels can grow in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This can lead to scarring and, if untreated, may cause vision loss or blindness. ROP is influenced by factors such as oxygen levels and the degree of prematurity. Early screening and treatment are essential to prevent serious vision problems and protect the child's eyesight.
