Retinal Ischemia

Retinal ischemia occurs when the blood flow to the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye, is reduced or blocked. This can result from conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or blood vessel blockage. When the retina doesn't receive enough oxygen and nutrients, it can become damaged, leading to vision problems or even blindness. Symptoms may include sudden vision loss or blurriness. Early treatment is crucial to restore blood flow and minimize damage, often involving medications or procedures to address the underlying causes.
