Reticulitermes (subgenus of termites)
Reticulitermes is a subgroup of subterranean termites known for their role in nature's decomposition process. They live underground or in wood, feeding on cellulose, the primary component of plant material. These termites have a caste system, including workers, soldiers, and reproductive termites, working together to build tunnel networks and maintain the colony. Although beneficial in recycling dead plant matter, they can also cause significant damage to wooden structures and furniture. Reticulitermes species are common in many regions and are notable for their ability to colonize and spread efficiently through soil and wood sources.
