Restore Act
The RESTORE Act, or the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies Act, is a law enacted in 2012 to ensure that penalties from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill are used to restore and improve the Gulf Coast’s environment, economy, and quality of life. It directs that a significant portion of the fines be invested locally in projects like habitat restoration, water quality, and community development, helping to repair the damage caused by the spill and support the long-term health of the region.
