Respiratory diphtheria
Respiratory diphtheria is an infection caused by the bacteria *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*, which primarily affects the nose and throat. It produces a thick, grayish coating in the airway, making breathing difficult and potentially blocking airflow. The disease can cause sore throat, fever, and swollen neck, and in severe cases, it can lead to breathing problems, heart issues, and even death if not treated promptly. It spreads through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing. Vaccination, such as the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) shot, is the most effective way to prevent this serious illness.
