Resolution (ship)

In naval architecture, the "resolution" of a ship refers to its ability to be divided into compartments that can remain sealed and watertight, ensuring safety if the hull is damaged. It represents the maximum number of such divisions a vessel can sustain while still maintaining buoyancy and stability. Essentially, resolution measures how resilient a ship is to flooding and damage—more divisions mean higher resolution and greater safety, allowing the ship to stay afloat even if multiple compartments are compromised.
