Residency Match Process
The Residency Match is a process where medical graduates apply and are placed into specialized training programs called residencies. Graduates submit applications to hospitals, rank their preferred programs, and programs also rank their preferred candidates. Through a secure algorithm, usually the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), both sides are matched based on mutual preferences, aiming for the best fit. Once the match results are released, residents learn where they'll train for their specialty, marking the beginning of their hands-on clinical education. This system ensures a fair, organized allocation of training positions nationwide.
