Resection Margin
A resection margin refers to the border or edge of tissue removed during surgery to eliminate a tumor or disease. It indicates whether healthy tissue around the abnormal area was also taken to ensure all disease is removed. A clear or negative margin means no cancer cells are found at the edges, suggesting all of the abnormal tissue was likely removed. A positive margin means cancer cells are present at the edge, indicating some might still be left behind. This helps doctors assess the success of the surgery and determine if additional treatment is needed.
