Rerupture

Rerupture refers to the situation where a previously repaired Achilles tendon tears again after surgery or conservative treatment. This can happen if the tendon doesn't heal properly, experiences too much stress too soon, or if there was an initial incomplete repair. Rerupture often causes sudden pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. It may require additional medical intervention, such as another surgery, to restore function. Preventing rerupture involves proper rehabilitation, gradual return to activity, and sometimes protective bracing during recovery. Understanding and managing risks are essential to reducing the chance of rerupture after an Achilles tendon injury.
