renal threshold
The renal threshold is the blood sugar level at which the kidneys start to filter excess sugar into the urine. Normally, the kidneys reabsorb all the sugar from the urine back into the bloodstream, but when blood sugar exceeds this threshold (around 180 mg/dL), the kidneys can’t reabsorb it all, leading to sugar spilling into the urine. This process helps regulate blood sugar levels, and its understanding is important in managing conditions like diabetes, where the threshold can influence symptoms and diagnosis.
