Remainder

In mathematics, a remainder is what’s left over after dividing one number by another when the division doesn’t result in a whole number. For example, dividing 17 by 5 gives 3 with a remainder of 2, because 3 times 5 is 15, and 17 minus 15 leaves 2. The remainder indicates what part of the dividend cannot be evenly divided by the divisor. It’s a useful concept for tasks like timing, grouping items, or understanding division beyond whole numbers.
