Relative Deprivation Theory

Relative Deprivation Theory suggests that people’s feelings of dissatisfaction or frustration often stem from comparing themselves to others who seem better off. Instead of focusing on absolute conditions, individuals assess their circumstances against those around them. When they perceive a gap between what they have and what others have, it can lead to feelings of envy, resentment, or even social unrest. This sense of missing out or unfairness isn’t just about material wealth but also status, opportunities, and social standing, influencing emotions and behaviors based on these comparisons.
