Rejection Mechanisms
Rejection mechanisms are processes within the immune system that identify and eliminate foreign substances, like bacteria or transplanted organs, to protect the body. When the immune system detects something unfamiliar, it activates defenses to attack and remove it. This natural response can sometimes target things that are harmless or part of the body itself (autoimmunity), or in cases like organ transplants, it might reject the new tissue. Managing rejection involves strategies to suppress or modulate the immune response to prevent damage while still keeping the body protected from real threats.
