Reivers
Reivers were raiders and thieves along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late Medieval period into the 17th century. They operated across the borderlands, often engaging in cattle rustling, kidnapping, and theft, motivated by economic gain and conflict between England and Scotland. Reivers were part of a hardy, resilient culture that developed in a lawless region where local border clans and families, known as reiver families, maintained their own codes of conduct. Their actions contributed to ongoing violence and instability, shaping the history and folklore of the border region.
