Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law)
The Reinheitsgebot, established in 1516 in Germany, is the Beer Purity Law that originally regulated the ingredients of beer. It allowed only water, barley, and hops in beer production, later permitting yeast as well. The intent was to ensure quality and prevent harmful additives. This law has become a symbol of traditional beer brewing in Germany and contributes to its reputation for high-quality beers. Although the law has relaxed in modern times to allow more ingredients, many breweries still honor its principles, emphasizing purity and craftsmanship in their brewing process.
