Reindeer

Reindeer are North Arctic-dwelling mammals known for their impressive migrations and adaptability to cold environments. Scientifically called Rangifer tarandus, they have thick fur and specialized hooves that change with the seasons, aiding in foraging and travel over snow. Reindeer are social animals, living in herds, and are herbivores, primarily feeding on lichens, grasses, and shrubs. They are culturally significant to indigenous peoples like the Sami and are famously associated with Christmas lore, where they are depicted as Santa Claus’s flying team. Their resilience and unique adaptations make reindeer a vital part of Arctic ecosystems.
