Regrouping

Regrouping, also known as carrying over, is a mathematical process used in addition and subtraction when the numbers involved require adjusting values between place values. For example, in addition, if the sum of digits in a column exceeds 9, you regroup by transferring the extra value to the next higher column—like turning ten ones into one ten. In subtraction, if a digit in the top number is smaller than the one below, you borrow from the next column. Regrouping simplifies computations, ensuring each digit stays within its appropriate place value, ultimately making calculations accurate and manageable.
