Refugee claims

Refugee claims are requests made by individuals seeking protection in a new country because they face serious danger or persecution in their home country due to their race, religion, nationality, political beliefs, or social group. When someone applies for refugee status, they must prove that returning home would put them at risk of harm. Agencies assess these claims to determine if the person qualifies for protection under international law.
