Reflexive Modernity

Reflexive modernity refers to a stage in societal development where individuals and institutions actively question and reevaluate the foundations of traditional norms, values, and systems. As societies become more aware of their own processes and impacts—such as technological change, environmental issues, and social inequalities—they increasingly reflect on and adapt their ways of life. This self-awareness leads to constant reassessment and restructuring of social practices, fostering more conscious decision-making. Essentially, reflexive modernity is characterized by society’s ongoing process of self-scrutiny and adaptation in response to the complexities and uncertainties of the modern world.
