Reflex Arc Concept
A reflex arc is a quick, automatic pathway that the nervous system uses to produce a rapid response to a stimulus, bypassing conscious thought. When you touch something hot, sensory nerves send a message to the spinal cord, which immediately sends a signal back to your muscles to pull your hand away. This process involves three main parts: sensory receptors detect the stimulus, a relay in the spinal cord processes it, and motor nerves trigger the response. Reflex arcs enable fast reactions to protect the body from harm without waiting for the brain to process the information.
