Redshirt Rule

The Redshirt Rule allows college football players to participate in up to four games in a season without losing a year of their NCAA eligibility. Typically, athletes have five years to complete four seasons of play. This rule enables players to gain experience early in their careers without sacrificing a year of eligibility, even if they participate in some games. It provides coaches flexibility to develop players gradually and manage team rosters effectively, especially in games where they want to evaluate or give playing time to newer or younger athletes.
