Rediscovery of Pompeii

The rediscovery of Pompeii occurred in 1748 when it was uncovered by accident during the construction of a palace in Italy. Pompeii was an ancient Roman city preserved beneath volcanic ash after Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. The ash and pumice hardened quickly, capturing buildings, artifacts, and even people in remarkable detail. This excavation allowed historians and archaeologists to gain unprecedented insight into daily life in Roman times. Since then, ongoing excavations have revealed more of Pompeii's streets, homes, and artworks, offering a vivid snapshot of ancient life frozen in time.
