Rediffusion

Rediffusion was a pioneering broadcasting service that allowed audio programs to be transmitted over landline telephone cables. Launched in the 1940s in the UK and later in other regions, it enabled users to listen to radio-like content at home by connecting their telephone to a special receiver. Essentially, it re-broadcasted audio signals through the phone network, providing a subscription-based audio service before modern digital or internet streaming. Rediffusion was instrumental in expanding access to entertainment and information, especially in areas where traditional radio or television signals were limited.
