Red Stick War
The Red Stick War (1835–1837) was a conflict between Native American Creek factions—the Red Sticks who resisted American influence and African American allies—and the U.S. government and American settlers in Alabama. The Red Sticks aimed to preserve their traditional ways and sovereignty, while opponents sought to disperse tribes and expand settlement. The war resulted in significant violence, ultimately leading to the defeat of the Red Sticks and the loss of Creek lands. It was part of broader conflicts during American westward expansion, highlighting tensions over Native sovereignty and cultural survival.
