Recharge Basin

A recharge basin is a designated area of the land where stormwater or surface water is directed to intentionally soak into the ground. Its purpose is to replenish underground aquifers, which are natural reservoirs of groundwater. By allowing water to seep into the soil, recharge basins help maintain a sustainable supply of groundwater for drinking, agriculture, and ecosystems, especially during dry periods. They also reduce runoff, preventing flooding and water pollution. Properly designed recharge basins are important components of water management strategies, combining stormwater control with groundwater recharge to support long-term water availability.
